Maladjusted's
Presentation, A.G.M and Christmas Show
November 29th 2003
The presentation
was held almost immediately following the Interclub. It was disappointing that
we did not have the Interclub perpetual trophy to display on the night. The
other club had failed to bring it along to the comp. It is my understanding
that at the time this newsletter goes to print, the trophy is still not in the
hands of the winning club. By all reports it was a successful night even though
only about half the expected number of members and families turned up.
A special mention must go to the Butler boys; Soak and Son of Soak who even
though it was Soak's 23rd wedding anniversary, came down to support the club
during the Interclub and stayed around to help the club celebrate its win at
the B.B.Q. I understand that plans for the evening changed from restaurant dining
to take away later that night when the boys finally got home.
As numbers were down on expectations and the club had provided meat, along with the Heritage Bakery supplying bread, cakes etc for dessert; there was heaps of food left over! Father Christmas put in an appearance with ice creams, lollies and sunscreen for everybody there. He told me later that he was very disappointed that none of the women would sit on his knee and tell him what they wanted for Christmas. I for one don't blame you girls, he was a shifty looking character!
Thanks
to the boys manning the flash new 'Fletch' barbie that was especially purchased
(at great expense) for the occasion! Six burner no less - or was it eight burner?
Is a man really measured by the size of his B.B.Q?
Or is it by the size of his tongs?
After the barbie we held the trophy presentation. The perpetual trophies are sponsored by Preece's Southport Surf and Skate. This year's trophies were sponsored by Heritage Pies and Pastries and made by John's Cuckoo-Clock factory (fantastic job, mate). Next time you're in the Bakery check out the clock on the wall. A list of the trophy winners is below and a 2003 Final Overall Placing's list is attached so you can check out how you did. Thanks must go to Craig Bonnett, Wayne Sutton, Peter Barley and Mike Padovani all of whom won more than one trophy and donated the extra ones back to the club to be sold for fund raising. The word is that we should get $100 each for them. If you're interested in purchasing one, contact Fluro. Club members will get first chance, any left will be sold at the bakery.
Once
the preso was out of the way the A.G.M. was held. Those present were subjected
to the President's and treasurer's reports. A proposal for a change to the club
championship rounds was also presented by Wayne Sutton on behalf of Braham Power
(Contest Director) and endorsed by those present.
The new format of an over 40's club champion will be included on next year's
calender.
During the evening the raffle we had been selling tickets to during the interclub
was drawn. Thanks to Kym Butler and Stansen for donating the prizes, wine and
wax respectively. The raffle raised $35 for the club.
The winners
were:
1st prize - 2 bottles of red - Paul Logan.
2nd prize - 2 bottles of white - Mark Fletcher.
3rd prize - 6 blocks of wax - Ray Palmer.
4th prize - 6 blocks of wax - Keith Fynaart.
Those who stayed late into the evening were treated to an amazing lightning show put on by Huey and had ringside seats in Fletch's lounge.

Presidents
Report 2003
Presented to A.G.M 29th November 2003 by Mike (Fluro) Padovani.
Welcome to this the 18th annual Maladjusted AGM. There are no positions up for election this year as all positions are filled for 2years. So you all can relax.
Of the
11 events scheduled on the club calender this year, we have only had to postpone
one and cancel two. This was due to extreme weather conditions. The last event
for the year, the fun day with South of The Port was programmed for Sunday the
7th of December. This event is a relaxing way to finish what has been a hectic
year, given our busy contest calender and some of our member's involvement in
the running of the National Titles here in S.A.
For the first time included in the scheduled events for this year was the 70's
Board fun comp. Those who surfed in this event gave heap's of positive feedback
and as a result we are hoping to include this event again on next year's calender.
The club has had a number of achievements and improvements during this year
and it is hoped that these can be fine tuned over the coming year. Firstly all
full fee paying members for 2003 received a Maladjusted / Golden Breed, T-Shirt.
We were able to do this as a result of the generous support of Golden Breed
Surfwear. Sadly this will not be the case next year, though I am hoping to organise
the screen printing of some Maladjusted windcheaters as a fundraiser, please
let me know if you are interested.
After many years of whingeing about our old rashies we finally raised the funds and purchased some new ones! Thanks to Kym Butler for his initial donation of wine that initiated the raffle. Thanks also to Braham and Wayne who organised the rashies through Golden Breed at a special price and Chris Bowen who did an amazing job selling raffle tickets during the State Titles. The balance of the funds raised during the rashie raffle was used to acquire and set up the traffic light system used during the national titles. These lights were hired to Surfing SA for the Titles. They have given us an undertaking that they will continue to use them for all major surfing events held in SA, including both short and long board State Titles. This will be a great source of ongoing revenue for the club. Thanks to Pommie (David Widdrington) and Grant Mitton for their assistance in acquiring the lights and Wayne Sutton for adapting them ready for use.
Membership
numbers in the club are the highest they have been for some years. We will finish
2003 with 30 full and 3 associate members on the books. Membership figures are
already starting to look good for next year with a couple of guys indicating
that they wish to join the club in the new year and a number of existing members
have already paid up for 2004.
I hope that those of you who have surfed with us for the first time this year
have enjoyed yourselves and the benefits of belonging to this club and will
be rejoining us for the new year. Reminder all fees (total $60.00) are due now
and must be paid well in advance of the first event you wish to surf in next
year. No Fees, No Surf!
Fees can be paid to Wendy Sutton (Maladjusted Club Treasure), Wayne Sutton or
I at any time. No cheques please, receipts will be issued.
Thanks to Mike and Vicky of Heritage Pies and Pastries who sponsored this year's trophy's and John Hardy who handmade them. I'm sure you will all agree that not only do they look great but are functional as well.
Thanks to Sibylle and Ron for the brilliant way that they have managed our website, it certainly has helped to promote the club in a positive light.
Thanks
to all the guys in the interclub team who sacrificed, in most cases, 2 days
to participate in this event. I am pleased to be able to report that we have
taken out the interclub comp for this year (7 to 5).
Thanks
also to Ross Ferguson who, in the midst of preparations for his stepdaughter's
wedding, took time out to organise the give a way's, plates etc. for today.
Unfortunately Ross could not be here as the wedding is tomorrow.
Thanks
to Father Christmas for finding time to make it yet again to our Christmas show.
A huge
thank you must also go out to Wendy Sutton and Cheryl Padovani. These girls
both work tirelessly on behalf of the club as treasurer and secretary respectively.
I know Cheryl has spent many a late night helping me publish the club's newsletter
and Wendy has done a fantastic job of keeping our books/finances organised.
Thanks
also to Mark and Tanya for supplying this fantastic venue for today's function.
Congratulations
to all the trophy winners, and to all those who missed out, I hope to see you
in the final placing's next year.
The thank-you
list is quite long and for that I make no apology. I am stoked to see the number
of club members who have contributed in various ways to the running of the club
this year. Your efforts have been appreciated by all.
To steal
and slightly alter a famous line:
Ask yourself not only what is your club is doing for you? But also, what can
you do for your club! Everybody can contribute in some way!
Finally thanks to all club members who have participated in making 2003 a very successful year for Maladjusted. I hope to see you all back again next year, have a happy and safe Christmas and New Year.
