Ways to Keep Charged Up
Surround yourself with positive people. Their good
attitudes will hopefully rub off on you.
{Join | Create} a weekly {networking | support | study}
group.
I still need to work on this one. Currently the closest thing
I have is Sunday Poker Night. We play Texas Hold'em if you
were curious.
{Join | Create} a electronic area to support your group.
I like using a newsgroup, but IRC can also work.
Give yourself a break. Every two or three hours get
away from your computer for 15 to 30 minutes.
My habit is to walk across campus and browse the new books
section at the library.
Take a mini-vacation each month or two; especially if you
don't feel up to it.
I have a book of parks and hiking trails for my state that I am
slowly visiting each one on weekend getaways approximately every six
weeks.
Setup your work area to be as comfortable and functional
as possible.
I just installed a light over my desk and since my office doesn't
have any windows I'm working on setting my screensaver to show
outdoor webcams in the area.
Set goals, and hold yourself to those goals.
Even if it means not accepting that free box-seat baseball ticket
that your advisor suddenly had available the night before one of
your mid-terms.
Be aware if you start to {do | say} things that you are
not proud of.
Review your performance at the end of every day. Did
I get everything done that I {wanted | planned} to do? If not,
why not? Was it worth it? If not, remember the
experience and do not repeat it.
Learn from failure but don't dwell on it. You need
to be positive to get your goals done quickly.
Get in a good mood before getting started on anything.
When driving to {class | work} in the mornings if I am not in a
good mood I listen to some Irish drinking songs.
